Ali Chabeishat and Sayed Khalad Mousavi tortured by the intelligence services for about ten months and interviewed on Press TV to claim their connection with Ahwazi political party outside of Iran.Their forced "confessions", following months of torture, have been recorded for broadcast by Iran's English language broadcaster Press TV on 18 November 2013.
Chebieshat and Mousawi families are deeply concern about the fate of their sons. They are fearing the imminent execution as it was the case of other Ahwazi activists who are transferred from prison but later were executed without notifying their families.
Article 38 of the Iranian Constitution prohibits all forms of torture “for the purpose of obtaining confessions.” The Penal Code also provides for the punishment of officials who torture citizens to obtain confessions. Despite these legal and constitutional guarantees regarding confessions under duress, “confessions” are sometimes broadcast on television even before a trial has concluded and are generally accepted as evidence in Iranian courts. Such broadcasts violate Iran’s fair trial obligations under article 14 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which it is a state party.
The Islamic Republic is violating articles 7 and 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which it is a signatory and held accountable.
We call on all International organizations, human rights advocates and the global community that they make every effort possible in order to force the Islamic Republic of Iran to put a stop to all executions of Ahwazi Arab activists. We also call upon the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to issue a statement, reacting to secret group executions of Ahwazis.
