I am writing to point out that the PMC has begun "channelizing" Devnadi, a stream in Baner that feeds the river Mulla.

This will completely destroy the rain-water harvesting projects the citizens of Baner are all involved in for the last two years.

This will destroy a major watershed for the Baner-Balewadi area.

This will also destroy the last remaining water-body for biodiversity in the region.

Dr Rajendrasingh, Rain-catcher, waterman and Magsaysay Award Winner, has visitied the Devnadi and initiated the rain-water harvesting program. As per his advice we have initiated the building of small check dams for slowing water and making it percolate in to the water table. we have also planted close to a 1000 Bamboo saplings along the Devnadi in addition to over a 100 trees of a variety of species (with the help of the PMC Garden Department).

When the city is officially facing more than 50% water cuts and most of us on Baner road are getting less than 20% water supply it is strange that the PMC is all out to destroy the water table of Baner Balewadi.

We have already submitted a draft Urban Watershed Policy (http://government.wikia.com/wiki/Urban_Water-Body_Policy) to the PMC at the hands of Dr Rajendrasingh. This was also presented to the Chief Minister Ashok Chawan and the Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh by various environmental groups.

Please join in and sign this petition to urge the corporation to adapt the Urban Watershed Policy immediately throughout Pune, stop all water-body channelization programs (starting with the Devnadi in Baner) and instead help build small check dams to harvest rainwater.
