In 2015 rugby world cup Scotland were banned from using the bagpipes. This ban still stands today.
In the 2019 rugby world cup Scotland had to stand and watch Samoa do their Siva tau dance. Other southern hemisphere countries have similar inspirational styled war dances, such as New Zealand had their haka ceremonial dance, along with Tonga and their sipi tau dance.
However the ban on Scotland being led out by their traditional bagpipes, a tradition that dates back as far as 1549 at the battle of pinkie, still remains in place. Bagpipes are a strong part of Scottish heritage and are used to celebrate any event or festival.
We, the undersigned, call on the ban to be lifted for the pre-match playing of bagpipes for the Scottish rugby team at the rugby world cup in France 2023.
