There are submissions to build highrises, shops, restaurants and even perhaps a retirement home in the area of the jetty precinct which is the heart and soul of Coffs Harbour. The state government is wanting to develop this land. It is now a multi-use area and at present the parking that is provided with painted lines is not adequate. On any given Sunday (market day) hundreds of cars are gathered here to visit the markets, to swim at jetty beach, to walk dogs on North Wall Beach, visit the Yacht Club, the eateries/co-op at the harbour. People visiting residents of the harbour itself would need to park here. Also people boarding boats for whale watching or other water activities. The big open area is also used for boot sales, car shows, travelling seasonal carnivals etc. The state government wants to take this all away from us.
We, the undersigned, oppose the state government's plans to develop the area of the jetty of Coffs Harbour east of the railway line. We want to retain our Open Space here for the use of residents and visitors. We do not want high-rises and we do not want to lose our much-needed undeveloped area where hundreds of cars are able to park to enjoy the various coastal amenities. In future perhaps only residents of these high-rises would be the only people able to attend any of the activities in this area.
