We care about our Children’s intellectual, social and psychological needs. Split level (multiage) classes do not work for all students.
Split level classes should only be implemented as a last resort to keep proper student : teacher ratios. There is sufficient numbers of students to make single grade level classes. There are good reasons to have split classes but there are more reasons to not split the classes. Classes should only be split if absolutely necessary.
Split level classes reduce the quality of education and students may not be exposed to the full required curriculum of their grade level. The older level of students may not be challenged enough and their time could be wasted by less mature students causing disruptions.
Younger students may not develop confidence if they feel like they are behind other students. Split level classes greatly reduce the number of class peers and potential friends available for each student. Older children generally do not like to play with younger children.
Split level classes require more planning and monitoring and all students must be able to work independently. Split level classes double the teachers’ planning, teaching, grading and record keeping time.
We, the undersigned, are concerned parents who urge our school administration to stop needlessly splitting classes.
