STOP SELLING BETTA FISH - PET VALU

All animals deserve to live in their natural habitats. Many animals are bred and sold for profit which is not OK, especially when so many animals are already in need of a home.

Pet Valu sells betta fish - fish that are from parts of Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia in the river basins of the Mekong and Chao Phraya rivers. These fish - these lives - are not meant to be kept in a tank let alone the tiny cups they often die in at Pet Valu. Fish are animals, as are humans, and they have their own purpose and will to live - they were not created to be sold for profit.

Pet Valu sells fish for a profit. They store these lives in very small cups. Through chatting with various Pet Valu employees it has been learned that some stores use blurred cups so that the fish do not get stressed from seeing one another, while some do not even do this. All of the Pet Valu employees spoken to recently said that they wish the fish were not sold at their store and that many of them die before being sold. These fish are left in cups, suffering in their own feces, sitting still with zero sunlight or natural surroundings. Some say that betta fish are fine with being in cups because they live in small spaces in their natural environment. However, "when kept in tiny cups or little "betta bowls," they can survive for a time, just like in puddles, but they will not thrive. Bettas also need fiber to keep things "moving along" so they avoid constipation, a common killer of household bettas. In their natural habitat, they get their fiber from exoskeletons of insects and plant fiber." (thenest.com) No animal deserves to be taken from their natural habitat and live a life of complete confinement without even their bare necessities.

It is very disturbing to go to a Pet Valu and see these fish barely living, waiting, and slowly dying in such horrendous environments.
