The Davao City National High School (DCNHS) is a 100-year old high school in Davao City, Philippines. The land where the school stands was donated to the government by the family of Tomas Tionko 100 years ago. The Davao City Council has recently publicly announced that the heirs of the donor have submitted a petition to the City Council to change the school name to Tomas Tionko National High School. This petition is meant to express the objection of the alumni and students of the DCNHS to such proposed name change

-------------------------------------------------------------------
We, the alumni and students of the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) express our firm objection to the proposal to officially change the school name to Tomas Tionko National High School (TTNHS) for the following reasons:
1. Even as we express our sincere appreciation to the Tionko family for their donation of the land where the school stands, we believe that the factors that led to the success of the school over the last 100 years are much more than just the said land;
2. Due to the school’s high level of success in educating the high school students of Davao City over the last century, it has now attained a high level of nationally-recognized brand as a school of excellence. Changing its name now will revert it to a school of low recognition to the detriment of the professional reputation of its alumni in their work places and the students when they study in universities for their college degrees.
3. The existence of the name “Davao City” in the school name is contributing significantly to the good reputation of the city in the field of education. Removing the name of the city will erase that hard-earned reputation.
As the saying goes, “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”
NO TO CHANGING THE NAME OF THE DAVAO CITY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL!
