The City of Norwich has declared its intention to demolish the the Reid & Hughes building at 199-201 Main Street in Norwich, Connecticut despite the protests of numerous citizens and civic groups.
A reasonable alternative in the form of a viable developer (The Women's Institute of Housing and Economic Development) has stepped forward and is willing to take on the redevelopment of the building.
Because the Reid & Hughes building is listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places as a contributing building to the Downtown Norwich Historic District, we are petitioning the CT Historic Preservation Council to step in and stop the demolition.
We, the undersigned citizens of Connecticut, request that the Connecticut Historic Preservation Council take the appropriate steps to prevent the unreasonable demolition of the Reid & Hughes building at 199-201 Main Street in Norwich, Connecticut.
