Unfortunately, this petition did not garner enough signatures to be successful. However, thank you very much for your support. Those who want to continue to press City Hall and the Police to address speeding, racing, and engine revving on La Rose Avenue, can individually file complaints with the police (non emergency number) and also email John Campbell, the City Councillor responsible for this area.
We would like to have necessary action taken to stop speeding and racing on a stretch of La Rose Avenue starting at Royal York Road and continuing east along La Rose Avenue to Scarlett Road.
This is to ensure the safety of the residents of our neighbourhood including children. This stretch of La Rose Avenue contains many homes and several high-rise buildings with families with young children and seniors. It also contains an elementary school, two churches, a seniors’ residence, a park enjoyed by many families and a plaza – all of which creates heavy pedestrian traffic in our community.
In the daytime, there is aggressive driving and speeding along this stretch of La Rose Avenue. The pedestrian crosswalk is often not respected by drivers. In the evenings, there is a subculture of street racing on this street and surrounding streets creating great danger for people and intolerable noise pollution in our community.
There does not appear to be much of a police presence in the neighborhood. Many complaints have been made to the police by members of our community and to our City Councilor. We now demand direct action on this issue to ensure the safety of the children, seniors and all residents in this neighborhood
We firmly request that, through policing and traffic calming measures, municipal authorities take effective action to eliminate speeding and racing on the stretch of La Rose Avenue starting at Royal York Road and continuing east along La Rose Avenue to Scarlett Road. We, the undersigned, ask for this petition to be granted to ensure the safety of the children, seniors and all residents in this neighborhood.
