We see new and unnecessary garbage piling up everyday. When pass the side walks, gullies, drains everywhere we turn there is a new set of garbage. Every year there is a new disease or virus that develops in Jamaica where this generation is very open to catch or develop because we are vulnerable. This is so because most of our environment are contaminated with garbage.
These contaminants goes as far as in our seas, rivers, oceans, streams etc. which in the long run destroys our reefs, oceanic habitats, animals, corals. What will we have left for the future generation to view when we sink Jamaica in unnecessary garbage?
We need to dispose of our garbage in a better and sustainable way by promoting the use of the three Rs in our day to day and world wide approach of disposing garbage.
Every day we see a new set of garbage. They pile up by the minutes then to days, months even years and all we do as individuals is to just walk pass them or ignore them as though it is the norm. This type of disposing is affecting us as a nation, the environment that contributes so much to our change in climate, the beauty of our island, etc. Citizens need to recognize the impact of their actions and how they affect their environment and themselves. The piling up of unnecessary garbage causes air pollution, respiratory diseases, new and emerging bacteria, affects small habitats, waters, and poses a big risk on our health. During the wet months the increase of illnesses increase and nothing has being done to reduce the excessive piling up of garbage. How long will we continue to over use our resources without considering the future? How long will we turn a blind eye to our wrong doings? Government need to put policies in place a better strategies of the disposal of garbage in various communities. Ensure the sustainability strategies enforcement in the communities by enforcing the three Rs (Recycle, Reduce and Reuse). Government and also residents can form community clubs for maintaining the cleanliness of the communities. Put policies for individuals or communities with excessive piles of garbage incorrectly placed fines which are paid individually if caught or paid as a community. The three R’s are a start for us to take on a positive change to our lifestyle. LET US STOP THIS AND HAVE A CLEAN AND SAFE JAMAICA.
