We, the undersigned, residents of the City of Charleston (SC), object to the plans of the Charleston Parks Conservancy to convert the Snack Bar at Hampton Park into an open air Café that will serve alcohol daily. We don’t want alcohol served in a recreational area that we use for family, church, and school events.
We call upon the council to remove the following provision from the Lease Agreement with the Charleston Parks Conservancy that was approved at the August 18, 2015 Charleston City Council meeting held on James Island.
5. Master Plan and Permitted Uses.
b. The Café Premises:
ii. Alcoholic Beverages: Beer and wine may be sold from the Café for on-premises consumption only, and only between the hours of noon and the authorized time for closing (9 p.m.). The annual gross proceeds of sales from beer and/or wine shall not equal or exceed thirty-five (35 %) per cent of the total annual gross proceeds of sales of the Café. Tenant shall clearly demarcate the portion where on-premise consumption of beer and wine may take place by means of a fence or other approved barrier and signage. Tenant shall be responsible for monitoring patrons to assure that all consumption of alcoholic beverages remains within the fenced area, and shall maintain a security officer at the Café Premises at all times during which beer or wine are sold. Tenant shall be solely responsible for securing the necessary permits to sell beer and wine as set forth herein and shall operate the Café in accordance with all applicable laws.
