Westfield has decided to impose car parking fees at Westfield Marion, Oaklands Park.
Car parking fees will have a negative effect on:
1) people choosing to shop at Westfield Marion;
2) people spending less time and therefore less money, thereby affecting the economy and employment in our district;
3) traffic congestion within the local neighbourhood;
4) introduction and extension of possible timed parking zones in the local neighbourhood;
5) potential increased car crime in the local area due increasing numbers of unattended parked cars;
6) decreased use of travel agents, hairdressers, restaurants/cafe's, movies etc which usage usually will require to pay for parking, thereby limiting their business, and potentially moving elsewhere;
7) penalising the majority of legitimate shoppers for the few who park there and not use the facility
8) hard working and dedicated staff having to pay to work at the centre;
9) using government facilities like Medicare, Centrelink, Family Assistance or the Electoral Commission located within Westfield Marion will require paying for parking;
10) the monitoring of individuals movements without their direct consent for the purpose of which the individual is unaware.
