Styrofoam is a waste of space in our landfills. If we could end the production of such waste we could begin to curb our need for more landfill space. We could begin to recycle Styrofoam more aggressively.
If a business chooses to use polystyrene foam it would have a bin to recycle it, or be fined.
*Although polystyrene foam (commonly known as Styrofoam) is completely non-biodegradable, it is recyclable. If you lined up all the polystyrene foam cups made in just one day, they would circle the earth.
* 73 billion mostly Styrofoam cups and plates being thrown away every year in USA.
*Plastic and Styrofoam disposables made from petroleum based chemicals & additives. Petroleum is not only becoming an increasingly scarce resource, but it causes pollution and toxicity every step of its use - extraction, transportation (e.g. oil spills), refining and eventual production of the end use product.
In addition the end use products made of Styrofoam and plastic do not degrade and persist in the environment for hundred of years, causing further pollution and toxicity.
We, the undersigned, call on the United States to eliminate the production of Styrofoam. And or Styrofoam that has not come from a recycled source.
Any business choosing to use Styrofoam products would be required to recycle its Styrofoam waste or be fined.
