Vision 2011 & Beyond Coalition; as a Human Rights, Civic and Voter Education Coalition, we have been following the sad developments in the Arab States in North Africa (Tunisia, Egypt, and now Libya), as well as in Syria and Yemen - where there have been some civil unrest in the recent past.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of innocent civilian lives in the process and hope that a peaceful and lasting solution shall soon be reached, for the benefit of the citizens of the affected Arab Nations. However, we condemn the killings of innocent civilians.

As regards Libya, Africa must reject military intervention in Libya by the United Nations (UN). We sincerely hope the UN Security Council’s military intervention shall be in the best interest of the Libyan people because the problem is more of a political than military nature – it does not warrant such air strikes that have damaged the country’s infrastructure - in the pretext of protecting civilians.

As Vision 2011 & Beyond Coalition, appeal to the UN to stop Air-Strikes in Libya. We are in the process of securing enough signatures from all concerned citizens of the Global Village, to petition the United Nations to stop military interventions in Libya – as we feel the Libyan problem is more of a political than military nature – requiring a political solution.

As a sovereign state, Libyans must be allowed to democratically chart their own way forward. Lessons learned in Iraq have been painful indeed for all who have lost their loved ones in the Iraq war - for no genuine reasons.

We demand that the UN must immediately re-examine its resolution 1973 on the Libyan situation, otherwise, history may repeat itself.

We demand a ceasefire in Libya and an immediate start of the process of democratization by way of preparing the nation for holding democratic elections soon.

We also demand that NO America, British of French company should bid for any tender to re-build Libya in the post war era - on moral grounds.
