Town of Long Lake Board Members and Supervisor
Region:
United States of America

The Town of Long Lake has proposed taking 10 acres of private property by
eminent domain. The proposed plan is to install 2 water mains from an existing
water treatment plant to a new water holding tank, which be situated on
property the Town has recently acquired for affordable housing.

The water mains will have to cross private property, in which an easement was
offered, but the Town has rejected. The Town claims they need the property for
future purposes, however, the Town has not produced any kind of plan
whatsoever, for the use of 10 acres. The Town is breaking state law by not
having a plan in place for the 10 acres, yet they are proceeding with eminent
domain.

The Town claims this plan is best for the community in order to receive a low
interest loan, in which was applied for and approved back in 2004. Now the
Town faces losing that loan because they have not had a plan in place and time
is running out on the loan. The Town has spent over $300,000 on putting this
project together, in which the Town had to take out a loan, without public
approval.

I strongly urge the citizens of Long Lake to sign this petition, and force the Town of Long Lake to hold a public referendum and let the citizens of Long Lake decide wether or not to proceed with eminent domain or to accept the easement offer, on the grounds that we disagree with the funds being spent on the eminent domain process and we disagree with the Town on taking property through eminent domain.

The Town of Long Lake should also have a spending cap of $50,000, any more to be spent should have to approved by the citizens by having a public referendum. It is time the citizens of Long Lake have a say on how the Town is run and how tax payer money is spent.
