Across the country politicians and councillors use the media to promote themselves, promote causes, address local issues and answer queries.
In one town council (Pembrey & Burry Port) an item was sneaked in off agenda and a local town councillor who writes a general interest column in his local weekly paper has been banned from all council committees, effectively leaving him unable to work as a town councillor.
This matter leaves the local voting public voiceless and unrepresented in their council.
We, the undersigned, call upon Carmarthenshire County Council and Pembrey and Burry Port town council to produce and publish guidelines on councillors' use of local media.
This is to include interviews, statements, photographs, social media, letters to published press, columns and appearances.
These guidelines must apply to all councillors without discrimination.
