On Sunday September 6 2009, at about 5 AM, a date that will live in Infamy, a demolition exercise supervised by a joint military and police personnel was conducted was conducted at borteyman on a parcel of University farmland which had recently been handed over to the Nungua Traditional Authority by the government of Ghana.
According to news report, this demolition exercise was orchestrated by the University of Ghana with the in collaboration with the Minister of Land and Natural Resources.
Several structures including a school building, a completed warehouse and a completed residential structure were demolished.
The demolition exercise was abruptly halted when some Nungua stool land representatives intervened. Rumours are that the demolition will be continued at the appropriate time.
We, the undersigned who are property owners at the above site call on Your Excellency The President to intervene on behave of your children and tax payers, the pending demolition exercise and the destruction of personal property worth millions of Ghana cedis.
Some of us have lived several years overseas and responded to calls from the government to come home and help build Ghana.
Some of us who responded to the call brought in several thousands of dollars to establish manufacturing businesses to help alleviate the chronic unemployment of the youth in this same neighbourhood only to be greeted with this massive demolition, resulting in the loss of several hundred thousands dollars in building and equipment.
