25 Years ago when I arrived in Middelburg there where road signs that prohibited trucks above 8 ton in the main roads and town suburbs of Middelburg. If they were caught they use to be fined.
The simple reason behind that is they damage the tar roads when turning in the crossings not even too mention the danger for normal vehicles in the town and it's suburbs. 99% of the trucks belong to company's or individuals that not even stay in Middelburg so they don't pay any taxes to repair the roads.
There is no reason for the Trucks to drive past schools like CR Swart or any house.

We the residents of Middelburg is requesting the Municipality of Steve Tshwete (Middelburg) to re-establish the road signs preventing vehicles more than 8 Ton, specifically Coal trucks from entering our CBD and suburbs.
Furthermore we request that this then be enforced by the Traffic Department.
