Background:
The Council is proposing to connect Pelican Waters Boulevard to Golden Beach by extending Burke St.
This is an attempt to alleviate congestion at the Nicklin Way/ Caloundra Rd roundabout.

This solution makes no sense. Pelican Waters residents going to Caloundra go through Golden Beach today.
The only possible outcome is that this will increase congestion in Golden Beach and Pelican Waters, which until the creation of Pelican Waters Boulevard, was very bad. No resident wants a return to a long wait at the traffic lights, which has already worsened in the last 18 months.
The Council proposed 2 routes from Nicklin Way to Caloundra in the Caloundra City Master Plan 2016, but does not show any proposed development on Burke St on Map 4 which was used in the consultation.
Burke St is not a road reserve. It is a designated Sports Precinct; land for exercise facilities for our growing population. Golden Beach has Aged Care facilities on Baldwin St. Increasing the traffic flow here will be dangerous. Further down the track there is the possibility that this becomes a trunk road to Aura.
Say NO to the Extension by SIGNING THIS PETITION and passing to your friends and neighbours (they can be from anywhere). Tell the Council to focus on upgrading the Roundabout or creating the roads in the Caloundra Master plan, rather than the Burke St Band-aid solution which will only increase traffic in Golden Beach to little benefit.

We, the undersigned, respectfully petition Sunshine Coast Council to cease the Burke St Extension. We believe The Extension will significantly increase traffic in Golden Beach and Pelican Waters, both today and in the future, for limited benefit. The Extension goes through Aged Care and Sporting Precincts, and is being effected with minimal consultation. We believe that Council should pursue their proposed solutions to Caloundra Road/ Nicklin Way intersections as set out in Map 4 of the Caloundra Centre Master Plan.
