Help Us Keep a 242’ Wind Turbine off Chapin and Gray’s Beach

As many of you may not be aware, there is an ongoing effort by the Aquacultural Research Corporation (ARC ) to locate a 242’ wind turbine on Chapin Beach. Just for perspective, that is the approximate height of the Pilgrim Tower in Provincetown. We have many concerns regarding this construction; we need the support of everyone to have our voices heard.

Having fought long and hard to restrict the construction of wind turbines in unsuitable areas on the Cape, our argument against this construction is as follows:

1) Compromises a well-loved recreational and environmental area for private business interests as well as decreasing property values in the area;

2) Places the turbine too near to residences and beaches increasing the likelihood of ill effects from dangerous mechanical issues, fires, and oil spillage which can result from turbine malfunctions;

3) Ignores health issues associated with wind turbines - noise, vibrations and sun flicker;

4) Disregards the environmental impact on the delicate ecosystem of the beach and marsh conservation wetlands. (Chapin Beach has already proven itself unstable in winter);

5) Violates historic district standards and destroys scenic views.

Basically, we are in a tough fight with this one and would appreciate any help you could provide by signing and forwarding this petition to the Selectmen of the towns of Dennis and Yarmouth.
