The Advertising Standards Bureau did not uphold the request to have this advertisement discontinued; however, it appears that the aerogard advertisement has now been superseded.
Thank you to everyone who signed this petition and supported this campaign.
Currently, an Aerogard mosquito repellent campaign is running nationwide. It states, in large, ominous red letters that dominate the poster, "DON'T GIVE BLOOD".
Below this, the Aerogard repellent image and a mosquito are included along with a fine-print qualifying statement, “Mosquitos don’t need your blood, people do”; however, their size carries little weight in comparison to the first message a passer-by, travelling at speed along a main road, would see.
This campaign is being advertised across Australia in bus stops, on television, and on radio over summer 2009 to the potential detriment of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service during its busiest period.
Any one of us could rely on blood, plasma, or platelet donations at any time in our life and an advertising campaign that jeopardises that is irresponsible.
To whom it may concern:
This petition calls for the discontinuation of Reckitt Benckiser's Aerogard "Don't give blood" marketing campaign.
We the undersigned request that this campaign be ceased immediately and permanently.
The Stop Aerogard's "Don't give blood" campaign petition to Reckitt Benckiser (Aust) Pty Ltd was written by Kate Reid and is in the category Health at GoPetition.
