I learned from creating this petition and will use GoPetition again. Some potential signers were confused by all the screens and busy screens and were not able to sign, thus participation was low. We are moving to a less cluttered website that is familiar to our target population.
Former Town Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding in a closed session in November 2015 to allow up to 600 high rise luxury apartments to be built on the American Legion property on Legion Road.
Although the Parks, Greenways and Recreation Master Plan shows that the land would be considered for a park when the town exercised its "right of first refusal" with the Legion, the Council gave up this opportunity without notifying citizens or the Parks, Greenways and Recreation Commission of its intentions.
The town had previously approved approximately 5000 apartments within town limits, far in excess of demand.
We the undersigned call on the Town Council to undo the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Woodfield Acquisitions.
This MOU is a constraint that hinders citizens' input and action. We support a transparent process.
The undersigned will be communicating to the Council about alternatives for development of the American Legion land by sending email to: www.mayorandcouncil@townofchapelhill.org
The STOP 600 Apartments on American Legion Land petition to Mayor Hemminger and Town Council was written by Joan Guilkey and is in the category Local Government at GoPetition.
