Several residents have complained about the water quality to the manager of the water supply facilities, Southwest Water Company. Southwest Water Company has responded to many, but not all, of the complaints. However, the response each time has been that the water meets all required quality standards and no further action is needed.
Residents have also complained to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The TCEQ sent an inspector to sample the water. Despite being shown discolored water in one residence and a very dirty filter from another residence, the TCEQ closed the complaint with no further action required.
Sterling Lakes Water Quality Petition
The undersigned residents of Sterling Lakes at Iowa Colony request that the Board of Directors for the Brazoria County Municipal Utility Number 31 make improvements to the quality of the residential water supply at Sterling Lakes at Iowa Colony. The water quality is frequently unacceptably poor. In particular, the water quality is often unacceptable in the following areas:
Color and Clarity – The water is frequently yellow to dark brown instead of clear. Washing clothes in unfiltered water has resulted in dingy and stained clothing.
Particulates – The water frequently contains visible particulates. The particulates settle over time.
Odor – The water frequently has a bleach-like odor.
Taste – The water tastes chalky, even after activated carbon filtration.

The undersigned residents request that effective action be taken by the MUD to improve water quality. We request that action be initiated as soon as practical.
