I am a step-mother to a wonderful 8 year old boy. His biological mother abandonded him when he was 2 months old. I became his step-mother 2 years ago and have been doing everything a parent should do without having the rights a biological parent has.
I cannot adopt him because the biological mother will not sign over her parental rights.
We need a law that gives step-parents the right to speak out and stand up for their step-children. We do not need to stand in the background any longer. We deserve more!
We, the undersigned, call on Congress to change the law regarding step-parents rights.
If we have the freedom to be our step-children's acting parents then we should have the freedom to speak on our children's behalf.
