We are to be evicted from our current home, Japes Lodge by 11/15/12. Show your support to help us find an interim space for gear storage, library, and meeting space, ideally adjacent to Beebe Lake to preserve recreational opportunities in this space and for the restoration or rebuilding of Japes Lodge in order to better serve the COC's goals and improve the aesthetic and ecological condition of the site.
The Cornell Outing Club is an independent student organization committed to promoting outdoor recreation in the interest of fostering appreciation of the natural world and personal confidence and leadership skills. We accomplish this through non-commercial, peer-led activities open to the Cornell University and Greater Ithaca community that share member knowledge and develop skills and experience required for safe and responsible use of natural resources. For nearly 100 years, the club has served as a resource by organizing trips, providing outdoor gear for those trips, and providing a library and network of information to facilitate such activities.
The Cornell Outing Club(COC) is based out of Japes Lodge, the historic home of Cornell Hockey and recreation in the Beebe Lake area, located adjacent to Beebe Lake and the Thurston Footbridge on North Campus. Since assuming its current meeting and storage space in Japes Lodge in 1958, the COC has been the primary source of access to recreational activities on Beebe Lake and the surrounding area to the general CU community.
Unfortunately due to budgetary constraints, Japes Lodge has fallen into disrepair. The COC now faces eviction by 11/15/12 at the latest, a blow that would cripple the club's activity. The COC would like to make the student body aware of the student resource that is in danger of being lost and garner support for an effort to find a home for the COC.
Our goals include:
Finding an interim space for gear storage, library, and meeting space, ideally adjacent to Beebe Lake to preserve recreational opportunities in this space.
In the long term we would like to compile funds for the restoration or rebuilding of Japes Lodge in order to better serve the COC's goals and improve the aesthetic and ecological condition of the site.

We support the allocation of space for an interim center of operations for the Cornell Outing Club and the repair or rebuilding of Japes Lodge as a long term home for the Cornell Outing Club.
