June is LGBT Pride month, a time to show support for LGBT+ community members, as well as raise awareness for their cause. According to the Human Rights Campaign, LGBT youth are twice as likely to be assaulted than their peers and nearly one-third of LGBT youth have attempted suicide. The Center for Disease Control recommends demonstrating acceptance, respect, and inclusion in schools and communities as effective means to combating these sobering statistics. The Pride flag is a symbol of compassion, inclusion, and diversity. Raising the Pride flag in Randolph sends a clear message to the LGBT community that they are welcome here.
We, the undersigned, call on the Randolph Town Council to raise a Pride flag during the month of June to demonstrate that Randolph celebrates our diversity as well as our inclusiveness of all of our residents.
