Thank you to all the supporters of this petition and to all those who were active as part of the wider lobby group to stop the Coal Port project at Shoalwater Bay Training Area.
Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett, rejected the project under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and this is a vindication for the environment!
Cheers!
The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House to the recent announcement by Queensland Premier Anna Bligh that the Waratah Galilee Coal Project had been declared as a State Significant Project.
This project proposes to develop a coal mine 38 km from Alpha, construction of a 500km railway line and a new coal export terminal to be situated within the Shoalwater Bay Training Area.
We the undersigned, object to a Coal Port development within Shoalwater Bay Training Area!
Your petitioners therefore request the House to stop the project and commit to protect the pristine wilderness areas of Shoalwater Bay Training Area from development.
The Shoalwater Bay Not Coalwater petition to Legislative Assembly of Queensland was written by Sara Hanggi and is in the category Environment at GoPetition.
