Comix Zone is a 1995 arcade-style beat 'em up video game, originally released as a Sega Genesis exclusive. An unusual feature of the game is that it is set within the panels of a comic book with dialogue rendered within talk bubbles and sprites and backgrounds possessing the bright colours and dynamic drawing style favoured by superhero comics.

This style had been used in video games previously, for example Ocean Software's Batman: The Caped Crusader in 1988, but Comix Zone stretched the idea to such an extent that Sega applied for and were granted a patent for a "Videogame system for creating a simulated comic book game".

And Howard Drossin is the Composer and the voice actor for sketch Turner in Comix Zone.

The concept for the game originated from a Commodore Amiga demo video animated by Peter Morawiec titled "Joe Pencil Trapped In The Comix Zone". The video was made in 1992, displaying the animation of how the gameplay and the comic book elements would blend in.

On release, Famicom Tsūshin scored the Mega Drive version of the game a 30 out of 40.[4] GamePro considered the game's visuals a successful recreation of the look and feel of a comic book, You really want to love Comix Zone for its original elements,

It's just a shame that SEGA never followed this game with a sequel of any sort, that it never attained the level of popularity or sales required for the brand to become a full franchise. Comix Zone was a welcome and unique addition to the 16-bit Genesis lineup, late into the life cycle for that system -- it wasn't released until 1995, when the company's focus had almost fully turned to the next-gen Saturn. It could be that gamers had already migrated to the new hardware, leaving Comix Zone behind in their time of transition. Or it could be that gamers knew full well about the game, and chose to ignore it because it kept kicking their butts.

THE VERDICT
Comix Zone joined several of its 16-bit brethren in the release of SEGA Genesis Collection for the PS2 a few months ago. Other than that, opportunities to experience this game have been few and far between. There's a genuine appeal to the premise of Comix Zone -- it's simply understood that the concept of having your own drawings come to life is totally awesome. But as you'll probably never get to do battle with your own notebook-scribbled sketches for new Mario baddies and Mega Man Robot Masters, you may want to give Comix Zone a look. It may be frustratingly difficult, but even frustratingly difficult is more fun than some of those old 5th grade math classes. ign give it a 7.5 GOOD!

Comix Zone deserves a proper Remake using the Unreal Engine 4 and make it's sequels that never happen. It's a great original comic book game.

So please sign this to let Sega know that there still is a huge fan base out there and would like to see this happen!
