Coast-FM NS was in the process of applying for our radio license and finalizing a transmitter site when we discovered the Bridgewater station was applying to the Canadian Radio and Television Commission (CRTC) for a second license for the South Shore.
Usually when a station applies to the CRTC, a “call" is issued to notify any other interested parties who also may want to establish a radio station in the same area. A "call" gives that party a chance to be heard at a hearing before the CRTC to present their point of view and plan.
The owners of CKBW have specifically asked the CRTC not to issue a call, saying that there simply is not enough room on the South Shore for another broadcast entity. But Statistics Canada in their last survey showed more than enough revenue and listeners to support two separate radio stations in Lunenburg-Queens Counties.
We need to file what is known as an 'intervention' before the CRTC no later than December 18, 2008, in order to be heard. Please sign this petition to support our intervention. Thank you!
We, the undersigned, call on the CRTC to allow Coast-FM NS the equal opportunity to be heard for a radio station license.
