ATTENTION RESIDENTS OF RURAL NEW SOUTH WALES... SAVE OUR RLPB's...

The New South Wales State Government recently instigated a wide ranging review into the structure of the NSW Rural Lands Protection Board in this state.

The results of this review have just been made public and include a number of recommendations that will have damaging and lasting effects on rural services, rural communities and livestock (horse) owners.

It is vital that the implementation of any recommendations contained within this review are postponed at least until such times as consultation with the people of rural New South Wales (those that will be most affected by these changes) can take place.

PLEASE DO NOT SIT ON YOUR HANDS!! CONTACT YOUR LOCAL MP's AND THE MINISTER AND SHADOW MINISTER FOR AGRICULTURE, AND PASS THIS EMAIL ON TO EVERYONE YOU CAN THINK OF WHO MIGHT HELP US TO PREVENT THIS BILL AND OTHER SIMILAR REGULATIONS BEING PASSED!

and the

NSW Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Mr Andrew Frazer

and your local State MP's as well.

We, the undersigned, request that the New South Wales State Government refrain from implementing the recommendations of the Integrated Marketing Communications Pty Ltd review into the structure of the NSW Rural Lands Protection Board (RLPB), until further extensive consultation with the people of rural NSW is undertaken.

We base this on the following reasons:

1. Given that the review identified that the great strengths of the RLPB system in NSW include:
> local knowledge
> local vigilance
> local response by professionals
> immediate response capacity
> community-building

and…

2. Given the the RLPB itself states that "TSRs provide pasture reserves for travelling or grazing stock. These reserves can be especially beneficial in times of drought, bushfire or flood. They are also important for public recreation, conservation and apiary sites."

...we feel that the supposed “real need for sweeping changes to the system across a range of areas” is unwarranted.

We strongly object to the recommendation that “All non-commercial or recreational livestock in the new board regions should be included on RLPB databases and this livestock should be subject to an annual registration or licence fee”.

We feel that this recommendation is aimed specifically at the horse owners of NSW, is little more than a de-facto EI-Levy and simply another money-grabbing exercise from the NSW State Government. Any such fee will place yet another burden on the horse owners of NSW and will further impact their enjoyment of their animals and participation in a range of activities.

We strongly object to the proposed cuts in staffing, which can only have a negative impact on RLPB services.

We strongly object to the statement that Travelling Stock Reserves are “redundant” and believe that these areas, which historically form an integral part of the make up of many rural areas and for many landowners are vital for their survival during times of hardship, must remain under the administration of local RLPB’s.
