Bill 35 is designed to level the playing field between Transportation Network Companies and Taxis, and although the intent is good, the bill will hurt the rideshare industry, local drivers, and ultimately the local economy. It is important to realize that Bill 35, while largely driven by pricing disputes, encompasses more than just price regulation, and should be dismissed until all the information has been presented and any misconceptions have been dispelled.
We, the undersigned, urge the Honolulu City Council to reconsider moving forward with Bill 35 and work on solutions that work to bring both Taxis and Transportation Network Companies UP to a level playing field.
