Tory MP Nadine Dorries has tabled a motion in Parliament calling for the introduction of abstinence-based sex education for girls. The amendment reads:
"Sex Education (Required Content): That leave be given to bring in a Bill to require schools to provide certain additional sex education to girls aged between 13 and 16; to provide that such education must include information and advice on the benefits of abstinence from sexual activity; and for connected purposes."
Such miseducation introduced in the USA has profited certain organisations whilst teen pregnancy and std rates have soared.
The UK's teen pregnancy rates are falling and at their lowest since the early 1980s. Add to that Ms Dorries proposes that these only be given to girls and here is a sexist bill going through parliament, voted in by a slightly over 10% of MPs. Surreal and unworthy of an enlightened country.
We, the undersigned, call on the Government to stop the ill-conceived and overtly sexist bill introduced by Nadine Dorries on 4th May, 2011.
