Save Town of WABANA Library

TO THE HONOURABLE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY OF THE PROVINCE OF NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED

The Petition of the undersigned residents:

HUMBLY SHEWETH

WHEREAS, the community aspect of libraries, including story times/rhyme times and free picture books is especially important for new mothers and their children. Children can easily read five books per week and all but the wealthiest parents could not easily afford this.

WHEREAS, the lack of access to the internet can reduce exam results by a grade. Public libraries can provide that access to children who do not have it at home and Lack of literacy exacerbated by lack of adequately funded libraries can lead to problems later in life.

WHEREAS On April 27th, the Library Board of Newfoundland and Labrador announced the closing of over 50% of the Province’s libraries. Included is the Bell Island Library.

WHEREUPON the undersigned, your Petitioners, humbly pray and call upon the House of Assembly to Urge Government to reverse this decision effective immediately.

AND as in duty bound your Petitioners will ever pray.
