The Uniting Church Bookshop is a retail store located in the heart of the Perth city centre. It operates as an outreach mission by providing books, audiovisual resources and other religious and liturgical resources to the general public through a retail outlet.
It is one of the last Christian stores left in the city centre and provides a vital ministry of being a friendly, welcoming space in the midst of the busy city. The resources provided cover a wide range of perspectives from the Uniting Church and other denominations.
The store carries a wide range of religious gift items and theological material; stock includes music, novels, rosary beads, and the UCA Basis of Union.
The Wesley Centre, the bookshop’s current location, will be closed for refurbishment at the end of 2006. With no new premises and a continual financial loss being incurred, the future of the bookshop is very uncertain. We are at risk of losing this important resource and ministry.
Support is needed in the form of acknowledgement from customers and supporters of the bookshop to demonstrate that the Uniting Church Bookshop is a valued part of the church and community. This petition will be addressed to the Moderator and Chairperson of the Presbytery of WA. Statistical results and comments may be used from this petition.
We, the undersigned, call on the Uniting Church in WA to recognise the importance of the Uniting Church Bookshop and support its’ continued operation in an accessible central city location.
