Thank you to everyone who signed and supported the efforts to Landmark the interior spaces of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The Landmarks Preservation Commission's public hearing is scheduled for today, January 24th, at 9:00 am and we will update everyone as soon as we know the results.

In June, preservationists were shocked by the announcement that the world’s preeminent Art Deco hotel, New York City's Waldorf Astoria, is going to be renovated, likely destroying the renowned Art Deco public spaces.
While the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) granted Landmark status to the Waldorf Astoria’s façade in 1993, the building’s many significant interior spaces are also worthy of Landmark status and are in urgent need of protection. Much of the original Art Deco elements, ornamentation, and design remain intact.
If we fail to protect these important interior spaces immediately, they could be lost forever!
The Waldorf Astoria Hotel deserves to be saved for more than its architectural merit; it is one of the most culturally and politically significant commercial buildings in New York City. From its 1893 inception, the evolution of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel has mirrored the transformation of New York City into a cultural epicenter.
We need your help now to encourage the LPC to act quickly to designate the exquisite public interior spaces of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, before we lose a globally recognized architectural masterpiece.
We, the undersigned, implore the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission to grant landmark designation to the exquisite public interior spaces of the 1929-31 Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
