Save the Basingstoke Irish Centre.
Save Fairfield's Community Space.
The Irish Centre together with Carnival hall is under threat!
The council is seeking to save money and develop the space currently occupied by these groups.
Their plan is to demolish the current buildings and build one multifunctional building that would mean unrealistic compromise for all the community groups and other users who currently take advantage of these valuable community assets.
As well as this inappropriate new hall the council would undoubtedly be looking to develop the remainder of any land released by the project.
If you have ever been to a gig, taken a class or otherwise taken advantage of the facilities these spaces have to offer, please support our campaign by liking and sharing this page.
Amenities like these are rare now and the council plan serves none of the community groups that currently manage them seeking only to save money rather than to enrich and enhance these very important spaces.
We the undersigned call on Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to abandon your plans to demolish The Basingstoke Irish Centre and Carnival Hall.
Your plans to force The Irish Society and the Community groups that use Carnival Hall into a multi-purpose 'one size fits all' community space are not appropriate to the cultural or practical needs of these groups.
