The Affordable Care Act (ACA) includes important improvements to Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) such as reducing expenses for seniors in the donut hole now and eliminating the gap altogether by 2020. Seniors receive additional savings each year on their prescription drugs until the donut hole is closed. The ACA also provides additional assistance for low-income beneficiaries. Since passage of the ACA in 2010, more than 9.4 million people with Medicare have saved over $15billion on prescription drugs. With congress debating Repeal and replace there are current ACA features that need to be protected form replacement such as the current ACA Closing the Donut Hole by 2020.
We, the undersigned, call on the members of congress to save the ACA closing the donut hole program from being replaced. The ACA helps seniors in the donut hole until it is closed, currently scheduled to be done in year 2020. Copayments required for brand-name and generic drugs are being phased down to the standard 25 percent by 2020. Brand-name drugs discounts from manufacturers increase each year in the coverage gap. Copayments for generic drugs are reduced by seven percentage points each year until the coverage gap is eliminated. Seniors of the US are wanting this portion of the ACA protected from elimination by repeal and replace. This is a vital program for Seniors to be able to maintain their proper healthcare without compromising daily living expenses.
