St Marks School has been around since 1861 and is an iconic landmark building in the great lever community, the councils plans to allow this to be turned into a religious prayer hall are outrageous and will almost certainly pay dividends for the local surrounding areas.
This is a local listed building so presumably the structure or layout cannot be changed, but to make this into a meeting/prayer hall when there is already a local mosque within 500 yards is unexplainable.
I am calling upon all residents of great lever and surrounding areas to sign this petition and put a stop to the change of use plans put forward by BMBC to the former St Marks school building on Fletcher street Bolton.
There idea is to change it from what is now commercial buildings into a meeting/prayer hall for the asian community, i do believe there are many other more important uses that this building could be used for and 100% do not believe that the meeting/prayer hall will benefit the surrounding community in the slightest.
Another reason for objection is that there is already a mosque within 500 yards of the old school, and as well as the remaining public houses in the vicinity, local residents/businesses will almost certainly be affected.
