Scandia has a public boat landing on the St Croix River, known as the Copas or Log House Landing to most. It's been around since the 1950s or so and is mostly used by fishermen with jon boats or other small river boats, paddlers and shore fishermen. Now, new City officials are considering four options - one of which is closing the ramp completely. A citizen group, which initially was in favor of retaining the current size and usage of the landing, now is in favor of closing the ramp to any boats on trailers and suggesting those doing so go either through the State Park or neighboring communities of Osceola and Franconia. If you agree the City and citizen group are wrong in their attempts to close Scandia's access to boats on trailers please read and sign below.
We, the undersigned, call on the City of Scandia to reject any attempts to close or limit the historical usage of Copas (Log House) Landing. We prefer the City either chooses the option of leaving the ramp alone with no changes; or the City install minor erosion control methods and DNR-style concrete planks on boat launch portion only. Both of these options retain the City's ongoing commitment to typical maintenance and access to all user groups.
