On 30 March the Andrews Labor Health Minister, Jill Hennessy, threatened to cut the services at the Emergency Ward of Sandringham Hospital from 24-hours a day, 7-days a week to only 12-hours a day.

She was reported saying she could: "force Sandringham Hospital to slash its 24-hour emergency department to just 12 hours a day".

Since making this threat the Andrews Labor government have been trying to cover their tracks by misleading the public and claiming the Hospital management said they would have to cut services. That is blatantly dishonest.

Sandringham Hospital's management has already ruled out supporting such cuts in services. In an email to staff Alfred Health's CEO, Andrew Way, has said:

"Be assured there are no plans to reduce emergency department hours at Sandringham Hospital".

Sandringham Hospital's management knows that services shouldn't be cut. So do we. It is now up to the Andrews Labor government to withdraw their threat to cut services, and recommit their support to a 24-hour, 7-day a week emergency department at Sandringham Hospital.

The petition of the residents of Bayside, Kingston and Metropolitan Melbourne draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly the threat by the Andrews Labor government to cut the services at the Sandringham Hospital Emergency Ward from 24-hours a day and 7-days a week, to only 12 hours.

The petitioners therefore respectfully request that the Legislative Assembly of Victoria calls on the State government to maintain the vital 24-hour services at the Emergency Services Department of the Sandringham Hospital, withdraw the threat by the Health Minister to cut services to only 12-hours, and meet both the emergency and general health needs of the local community and the Southern Region of Melbourne.
