St Edmunds Borough Council are attempting to build a relief road through the middle of Rougham Airfield. The airfield used to be a WWII US Air Force Base, with the original control tower fully restored as a museum.
The airfield is home to a number of flying clubs and organisations and hosts 5 large public air display events per year.
It is to be hoped that when the final decision on the route is made, the historical importance of the Control Tower site and the peace of the Memorial will be taken into consideration, and that the Airfield will be left intact to develop as a site of historic interest and continue to be free to operate as West Suffolk’s Open Air Venue.
We, the undersigned, call on St Edmundsbury Borough Council to use an alternative route for the relief road that will otherwise destroy Rougham Airfield.
