Kings Park was given to the people of Bournemouth by the Cooper Dean family, & as such can not be sold. However the council supports AFC Bournemouth free use of the land for their pitches, for 125 years.
Kings Park contains an athletic stadium, indoor & outdoor bowls, a skate park & many council run football & cricket pitches. There are also child play areas & a few open spaces enjoyed by families, dog walkers, pilots of model aircraft, cross-country runners & many others.
Several natural habitat areas containing a wide range of plants & animals, including reptiles, are very close to the proposed development, & therefore at risk to long term disturbance.
The AFC Bournemouth stadium is on the edge of the park & should not be allowed to encroach further onto this public open space. Kings Park is there for the enjoyment of the people of Bournemouth, & not for the improvement of business or to make them money.
We, the undersigned, object to the plans of AFC Bournemouth to install 2 full sized & 2 five-a-side football pitches behind their stadium on public open space.
We suggest instead that the area inside the former model railway track & including the disused hard core pitches, is enclosed & developed as required, but with less pitches. This will then save a similar amount of land also be taken from the adjacent managed area of the park.
