In 2005 the Prospect Heritage Trust collected 872 names on a petition that opposed the building of a 'recreational facility' on the last remaining land in Prospect that typifies the area's rural heritage that goes back to 1791.
In September 2010 the Premier announced that Wet'n'Wild Sydney will be built on this same parcel of land. This land fronts on to Reservoir Rd., which was originally called the Great Western Highway. This section of road is the last remaining part of the original line of the Great Western Highway along which trod the settlers and gold diggers travelling to the inland frontier. It is likely that the building of this road over the mountains in the early days of the Colony of NSW saved the settlement of Port Jackson from abandonment.
This old road will have to be upgraded to accommodate the number of visitors that the Park is supposedly going to attract. We propose that Wet'n'Wild should be built at a nearby site in the Western Sydney Parklands where there is already good access by road.
We, the undersigned, call on the NSW Government to save the heritage land and the last remaining section of the original line of the Great Western Highway at Prospect by building Wet'n'Wild Sydney on another portion of the Western Sydney Parklands.
