New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has proposed closing 50% of after school programs in New York City, one of which is Federation Of Italian - American Organizations P.S. 48 OST After School Program.
FIAO's program provides 200 children, ages 5 to 12, with a safe place to go after school where they complete their homework, enhance social skills, as well as activities which foster social and emotional competencies, and physical well-being.
Closing this program would be devastating to the children and their parents who are not able to afford private programs.
We, the undersigned, urge you to come together and restore funding for the FIAO OST After School Program at P.S. 48.
The families that rely on child care and after school programs work hard. The P.S. 48 OST Program provides children with critical educational opportunities that pave the way for future success and allow working parents to keep their jobs, jobs that support their families and the local economy.
Without access to these programs, working parents will be forced to make potentially unsafe arrangements for their children in order to keep their jobs.
We believe it is wrong to balance the city budget on the backs of young children and hard working families. We are counting on you to save the P.S. 48 OST After School Program.
We urge you to restore these devastating cuts and commit to funding this program.
