This petition calls upon the Mayor of London and TfL to withdraw their decision of discontinuing the well-known, practical and liked bus route 10 in London.
The petition will give reasons for seeking the withdrawal of the decision to discontinue route 10 and it will be signed by the general public who agree with it.
In the 30-year history of route 10, the people of Hammersmith and Kensington & Chelsea enjoyed the privilege of travelling direct from Hammersmith to King's Cross without transferring buses.
So for one bus journey, the commuters could travel the entire distance on one bus fare.
This has been denied to them through discontinuation of bus route 10 and is a violation of their rights as well as needless extra financial burden on the commuters.
In other words, TfL has caused misery for these commuters in order to extract extra fares.
This is not acceptable.
Therefore, the Mayor of London, who is an elected representative of the people, should take note of this in justice to the commuters and order cancellation of the decision by TfL to discontinue route 10.
This is the only remedy which will be acceptable to the commuters.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Mayor of London and the Transport for London to withdraw their decision of discontinuing the well-known and liked bus route 10 in London for the following reasons:
1. Over 5 million passengers will lose the option to travel daily on this route.
2. Route 10 carried 5,140,314 passengers last year which is more than routes, 74 which carried 4,933,049 people, route 22 which carried 4,545,378 people and route 7 which carried 8,355,834 people.
3. It's the only bus route in London that connects between Hammersmith and King's Cross.
4. It's the only bus route that passes by the British Museum which is one of the most useful tourist destinations in London.
5. Although Crossrail is opening this year in December, it does not serve Hammersmith or King's Cross where route 10 goes so what is the logic for discontinuing it.
6. This withdrawal of route 10 will be a disadvantage for elderly and disabled people who prefer buses over Tube.
7. It is wrong on the part of TfL to compare Tube and train services to bus services because the nature and dynamics of the two are different.
8. If route 10 is withdrawn, then the 5 million passengers who used it last year will have to use route 9 increasing the load which will mean overcrowding in the 9 buses and more misery for the commuters.
9. Many passengers carrying luggage from Heathrow use route 10 to reach destinations from Hammersmith to King's Cross and if it gets withdrawn, then it will put this extra burden on route 9.
10. The cost of running route 10 is low because the same operator (RATP Group) that runs this route also runs the 9 with similar equipment (New Routemasters) sharing their allocations with each other and their maintenance in the same bus garage which reduces costs and streamlines operations.
11. The plan to pedestrianise Oxford Street has been abandoned and this TfL consultation of route 10 does not take that into account.
