The Education Secretary has decided that music tuition will no longer be provided by dedicated Music Services, part funded by Government and LA. Money will be allocated to School Heads and will not be ringfenced so they can spend (or not) what they choose on Music.
This will mean in most areas the end of free lessons for kids who can't afford to pay and the end of local school orchestras and ensembles which are organised by the local LA Music Service. Creativity is being put out to tender for only the affluent.
Save Music Services!
We, the undersigned, call upon the Education Secretary and the DfE, to reinstate central funding for local authority Music Services.
These services have enabled children from all backgrounds to learn a musical instrument and participate in music groups.
