- Target:
- The Mayor of London
- Region:
- United Kingdom
Your local Labour Party is campaigning to stop the closure of much valued police stations in Hornsey, Muswell Hill and St Ann’s. This comes after the Tory Mayor of London has now admitted that there will be widespread station closures across London as a result of the £380m shortfall in Government funding.
Alarmingly, the Met is now proposing to set up ‘public access points’ to replace closed front line police counters, where local police officers would only be available in supermarkets or places of worship for a few hours a day. Government cuts of 20% to police budgets have already led to 1,444 police being taken off the streets of London over the last two years.
Your Labour team is demanding that residents must be consulted if local police stations in Hornsey, St Ann’s and Muswell Hill are now set for closure. If they’re not replaced with ‘like- for- like’ replacements, it would seriously undermine community safety and the peace of mind of local families.
We, the undersigned, believe that the proposed closure of the local police stations in Hornsey, Muswell Hill and St Ann’s will undermine community safety for local residents.
We demand that if the closure of any police station goes ahead, the Tory Mayor of London stick to his pre – election pledge and replace it with a ‘like- for like’ replacement in the same area.
With 1,444 police officers axed in London over the last two years, residents deserve to know if their local police stations are now under threat and should be consulted about any further cuts or any other changes to their local policing teams.
