Dear Sir/Madame:

I urge you to intervene rapidly and decisively with the Government of Bahrain to STOP the brutal torture of Mr. Ebrahim Sharif, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Action Society (Waad), and the most prominent opposition leader in Bahrain. There are confirmed reports that Mr. Ebrahim Sharif has been admitted to the Military Hospital for the second time since his detainment due to savage and brutal torture to which he has been subjected. Ebrahim Sharif was detained unlawfully on 17th of March 2011 due to his call for peaceful political reforms. Sharif was not arrested “because he was calling for the downfall of the regime, having contacts with foreign entities and inciting incidents of violence resulting in the death of civilians” as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa claimed. He was arrested because he was a strong advocate of WAAD’s democratic reform views and principals for a wider and genuine political participation as in true constitutional monarchies.

Sherif’s wife, Farida Ghulam, has confirmed that he did not suffer from any illnesses before his arrest. I am afraid that his life and safety are endangered given the continuous and brutal torture the state security forces are inflecting on him. I am also concerned that severe torturing might lead to more deaths especially after four political prisoners died under torture in Bahraini prisons during the first two weeks of April. This has been confirmed by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. Since the beginning of the uprising of the Bahraini People in February 14th, hundreds of people have been detained including women and children; in addition to the dozens of people who are missing. We kindly urge you to raise your concern and demand from the Bahraini government to STOP at once all kinds of torture of political prisoners. You need to take action immediately before more people die. Please help us stop the silent killing of peaceful democratic reformers and innocent civilians. You can influence the action of the Bahraini government.

سيدي العزيز / سيدتي العزيزة:

أحثكم على التدخل بشكل عاجل وحاسم مع حكومة البحرين لوقف التعذيب الوحشي الذي يتعرض له السيد إبراهيم شريف، الأمين العام لجمعية العمل الوطني الديمقراطي (وعد)، و أبرز زعيم معارضة في البحرين. توجد تقارير مؤكدة بأن السيد إبراهيم شريف قد تم إدخاله المستشفى العسكري بالبحرين للمرة الثانية منذ اعتقاله بسبب التعذيب الوحشي الذي يتعرض له. قد تم اعتقال ابراهيم شريف بصورة غير مشروعة يوم 17 مارس 2011 بسبب دعوته لإجراء إصلاحات سياسية سلمية. شريف لم يعتقل لانه كان يدعو الى سقوط النظام، أو بسبب إجراء اتصالات مع جهات أجنبية أو التحريض على العنف مما أدى إلى مقتل مدنيين كما ادعى وزير الشؤون الخارجية ، الشيخ خالد بن أحمد آل خليفة. ولكن قد اعتقل لانه كان مؤيدا قويا لمنهج و مبادئ "وعد" الإصلاحية و التي تهدف إلى مشاركة سياسية أوسع وأعدل كما هو الحال في الأنظمة الملكية الدستورية الحقيقية.

وأكدت زوجته، فريدة غلام، انه لم يكن يعاني من أي أمراض قبل اعتقاله. نخشى أن حياته وسلامته في خطر نظرا لاستمرار تعذيبه على أيدي قوات أمن الدولة. نخشى أيضا أن المزيد من هذه البلطجة الغير شرعية ستؤدي إلى المزيد من الوفيات خصوصا بعد أن توفيا أربعة سجناء سياسيين بسبب التعذيب في سجون البحرين في خلال أول أوسبعين من شهر أبريل وهذا ما أكدته منظمة مراقبة حقوق الإنسان ومنظمة العفو الدولية. منذ بداية انتفاضة الشعب البحريني في 14 فبراير، قد قام النظام البحريني باعتقال المئات من أفراد الشعب من رجال و نساء و أطفال بالإضافة إلى أعداد المفقودين. نحن نطلب منكم اتخاذ الإجراءات الضرورية على الفور من أجل الضغظ على الحكومة البحرينية للتوقف عن جميع أنواع التعذيب للسجناء السياسيين و الأفراد الأبرياء الذي تم أيضا اعتقالهم. الرجاء مساعدتنا على وقف أعمال القتل الصامتة للمصلحين الديمقراطيين السلميين و المدنيين الأبرياء. يمكنك التأثير على أداء الحكومة البحرينية.
