Dorintosh Central School has been a pillar in the community for more than 35 years. Currently enrollment numbers are low but trends are showing an increase over the next 5 years to more acceptable enrollment numbers.
To close a school when numbers show the area is growing doesn't seem to make any sense.
Moving the Dorintosh and Rapid View students to the Meadow Lake schools will cause the K-4 schools to operate at over-capacity which will cause problems of its own.
This petition is in support of the retention of Dorintosh Central School. The school is highly regarded and known for its excellent educational standards. It reflects what's best about society and enjoys a great reputation in the wider community.
Despite being small in size, it has a large footprint in the wider world, with many of its past pupils obtaining highly influential posts within society.
I am confident that it meets and exceeds the criteria required by the Education Act and Regulations, with exception to the number of 50 students for a K-8 school.
This magic number is unachievable in the near future for a school in such a rural setting.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to retain Dorintosh Central School.
