If you live in the local area, then I’ve no doubt that you have encountered the ‘fussiness’ of the rubbish collection service.
If you live in the local area, then I’ve no doubt that you have encountered the ‘fussiness’ of the rubbish collection service.
Now, I recognise that this is not the fault of the hardworking individuals that come to collect our trash but rather is mandated from ‘on high’ and passed down to the workforce. Nevertheless, the problem is real and it makes it hard for many of us in the community to dispose of our rubbish.
Let’s consider just a few of the different circumstances under our rubbish or recycling will not get collected:
· Rubbish bag has broken open and contents have spilled into the dustbin
· Lid of dustbin is not able to close fully and is slightly ajar
· There is a bag of rubbish next to the dustbin on the floor
· There is one item in the bin that should not be there
· The bin is not in the perfect position at the end of the drive
This all might seem understandable on the face of it, but it is petty in practice. Consider this scenario: you have diligently been keeping on top of your recycling and have put everything into the recycling bin over the last fortnight. You push the bin to the end of the drive but unbeknownst to you, passing children have dropped a plastic bottle into the bin.
Your recycling does not get collected.
Cue the following week being spent living around a sack of rubbish in your kitchen because there’s no space in your bin for it. This continues for two weeks.
Or what about scenarios where you just overflow ever so slightly and can’t quite push the lid down on rubbish collection day. Again, two days of bags of stinking rubbish in your home – creating a backlog that you can’t bounce back from.
If you agree that these rules are too stringent and ultimately destructive then I implore you – sign the petition!
